Silver Line

Black and portentous
were the skies
that stared into
my quivering eyes.

Heavy and boistrous
were the waves
that drowned my heart
and doused its rage.

Drained of life
and void of hope
without the sight
of land to port.

Then sunshine breaks
weaves sun and silk
that pours into
the life i built.

I climed the mast
and reached out high
for a thread
a silver line.

The tortured ship
took one last breath
left me here
upon this shelf.

The shadow fades
to depths below
left me here
a ray of hope.

Her Eyes Are The Ocean

Her eyes are the Ocean
her hair is the Sun
her skin is the moonlight
that night lies upon.

Her breath is the sea breeze
I feel on my neck
her arms are an island
when searching for rest.

Her thought it the depth
from horizon to floor
her voice a calm wave
that breaks on the shore.

Her beauty the sunrise
and pain when it leaves
then comfort from stars
she hangs over seas.

Her soul is a pearl
I plucked from a shell
a fortune for paupers
luck turned in the swell.

Vessel Swells

The last time I saw you
was the first time I fell
my back to the ocean
watching the tide in your eyes.

Lost in the vastness
I found something there
something I once felt
but had long since died.

The last time I saw you
was the first time I fell
we shrugged off our lives
and danced in the swell.

A diamond-laced carpet
strung under the sky
the vessel, my heart swells
keeping you dry.

Prince

Take your prince down
with his chips in his cone
to lounge in the sand
on your collapsible throne.

Build him a kingdom
with buckets and spades
when sun burns too bright
put up your shade.

Let him run free
keep all seeing eyes
on him on the ground
and his kite in the sky.

Watch for the current
don't wander too deep
wash of the sand
that sticks to his feet.

Carry him home
asleep in your arms
to your castle, his bed
shielded from harm.

Free

Chasing time at oceans side
racing waves and tide
flesh cold fresh, clothes are wet
smiles from side to side.
Bolts are blowing in the distance
dance among the falling remnants
clouds explode and time erodes
through sands with no resistance.
Let the rain fall on your tongue
dodge the lightning bolts for fun
close your eyes lose your mind
dry your mind off in the sun.

Beneath the Wave

Beautiful sea beautiful sea stir up in rage
take me from my broken mind
away from the eggshells I tread
from every bad memory
and every worse mistake
take me in your arms
to your bed where I can hide
disappear into your darkness
swallow my thoughts
wash away every bad sin and give me
a clear conscience and soft pillows
wash me ashore and to her feet where I will
worship
make me her protector to guard her from
the harsh realities
and incredible truths of a violent and unforgiving
world
when it gets too much we will retreat into your
vastness
where I will be her breath
and she will be my light
beautiful sea beautiful sea stir up in rage
where love can love beneath the wave

Piers Lost

Walk, walk to the end
the end of the pier
keep your soul near
for all the souls do tend
to wonder round here.

Hear, hear what they say
the stories they share
the times that they dared
to risk all their days
for those that once cared.

Walk, walk to the end
a seat there for two
i'll sit next to you
I will pretend i'm not wondering too.

Dig Me a Hole

Dig me out a nice hole
tie up both my hands
and plant me in the sand
yes plant me in the sand

Pick yourself a nice seat
watch the tide grow high
rise up past me eyes
yes rise up past my eyes.

Leave me here a while
let the salt soak in
you'll see my face again
yes see my face again.

Wash away the bad dreams
see the tide roll down
can you see me now?
come and dig me out.

Pick off all this sea weed
and see whats underneath
cut of these restraints
and help me to my feet.

The sparkling thought of you
taught me how to breathe
and kept me smiling through
the darkness of the sea
